Prosody Support

Answers to the common questions, and how to reach a human.

Contact

Email robbie@3gtdata.com. Bug reports and feature requests are welcome the same way. When reporting a problem, the Audiobookshelf server version (Settings in the web UI), your phone model and the app version (at the bottom of Prosody's Settings) make it much quicker to fix.

I do not have a server. Can I try the app?

Yes. Prosody is a client for Audiobookshelf, which you run yourself on a computer, NAS or small VPS. To try the app before setting one up, sign in to the public demo server at https://demo.prosodyaudio.app with the username reviewer. It holds public-domain LibriVox recordings only, and everything on that login is shared with everyone using it: progress, bookmarks and the listening-session history, which shows the device and IP address each session came from. Treat it as a playground. The password is u6ll87ZrQT9r.

Connecting

  • Enter the address you use in your browser, including https:// and any port, for example https://books.example.com or https://192.168.1.20:13378.
  • Prosody connects over HTTPS only, because plain http:// would send your password and sign-in token unencrypted. For a server on your own network, put it behind a reverse proxy with a certificate, or give it a self-signed one.
  • Self-signed certificate: on Android, Prosody offers to pin the certificate on first contact. On iOS, install and trust the certificate in Settings first.
  • Sign in with Plex appears only when your server owner has set it up.

Casting

On Android the Cast button appears only when the server has a certificate that Google's Cast receiver trusts, which means a publicly trusted certificate (for example from Let's Encrypt), not a self-signed or plain HTTP address. On iOS, AirPlay works with any server.

Prosody Plus

Plus is an optional subscription that unlocks the extras marked with the Plus tag in the app. Manage or cancel it in your Google Play subscriptions or Apple ID subscriptions. A purchase that is not showing up: open the Plus screen and tap Restore subscription. Refunds go through the store you bought from.

Playback

  • Progress syncs to your server whenever the app is online; offline listening is synced the next time it connects.
  • The sleep timer and playback speed are buttons on the player; skip lengths are in Settings.
  • Downloads are kept in the app's own storage. Signing out asks first, then deletes them along with that account's library copy, progress and bookmarks.
